Alternative Heating Options – When to consider Diesel Infra Red Heaters

by Sigrid Von Valhalla on November 24, 2011

Space heaters or any kind of blown air heater are fine for heating small rooms, but if you want heat a small part of a large room – they are just great ways of wasting energy. They are the obvious type of heater to buy – but it’s worth knowing that there is an alternative that might be a better solution.

People know about electric infra-red heaters, halogen heaters are very popular – however the fuel infra-red heaters are less well known.

The issue you might have trying to use the wrong type of heaters it that you lose most of the heat to the air when you are trying to heat an area with it. It’s not a problem in a small room as the air is what you are trying to heat. In a large open area – the heat rises, and you lose most of it.

Radiant heaters combat this by heating what you point them at directly. So if you have a team of men in the centre of a large warehouse who need some heating – pointing a radiant heater at them is more effective than using something like a space heater or an electric fan heater.

You can get a gas radiant heater that looks a bit like a giant radiator. They can be tricky to maintain and there is always the severe winter problem of propane cyinder shortages to contend with.

The alternative is a diesel fired radiant heater, these are direct fired so should be used in a well ventilated area and cannot be used where there are flammables around – but in most circumstances these restrictions are typically not applicable in the sort of places you would want to use an infra red diesel heater.

If you were thinking of buying a blown air or space heater for your warehouse, maybe it’s time to look at a more efficient alternative?

Ceramics factories love infra diesel heaters too – why? Because they don’t blow dust and debris up off the floor, just heat.

Portable Heating and Cooling are also specialists in the area of Marquee Heater. This article, Alternative Heating Options – When to consider Diesel Infra Red Heaters is available for free reprint.
